You can Sell Your Home In December!

Do you think the real estate season is over for 2012?

For some people it is but December is still a great time to sell your home. It is the time of year when families are together, feelings are positive and everyone’s thoughts turn to house and home. It is probably the time of year when your house looks it’s best as well!

Remember that if you are thinking of buying or selling a home at this time of year other people are too. If all the other sellers have left the market maybe it’s a good idea for you to stay in or to offer your house for sale.

When selling at this time of year there are a few things to bear in mind. You need to keep your house and grounds in good condition. This holds true all year but the tasks are different. No need to mow the lawn but keep you walkways, driveways and patios or decks clear of snow and ice. Make sure the house is warm, a cold house is not welcoming and comfortable. Have a rubber matt for boots and some warm slippers if possible. If you have some Christmas baking to do doing it around showings will definitely be helpful. if there is a little extra leave it out for prospective buyers.

With the same amount of effort as selling in the spring or summer you can encourage visitors to your home to experience how they would enjoy living in the home that you have enjoyed in your time there.

  1. I like the idea of leaving cookies out after baking! Then, people can imagine having Christmas there next year. I know I had some issues about Sellers not wanting to give up possession on the date of the closing if it is too close to Christmas or Chanukah! I would be weary of scheduling dates while drafting contacts, although this is more of an issue for contracts accepted in November.
